India Clinches 5th Asian Champions Trophy With 1-0 Win Over China
The Indian men’s hockey team secured their 5th Asian Champions Trophy title by defeating a resilient China 1-0 in the final on September 17.
Jugraj Singh scored the decisive goal in the 51st minute, sealing the victory for India after a hard-fought match. Despite being the favorites, India was challenged by China’s solid defense throughout the game.
India and China had previously faced off in the tournament opener, where India won 3-0. However, the final proved to be a tougher contest as China put India’s defense under pressure and kept the game goalless at half-time.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh and his team created several opportunities but were unable to convert, thanks to China’s disciplined defense.
Jugraj Singh’s breakthrough in the final quarter, following a fine setup by Harmanpreet, finally gave India the edge. Despite China’s late surge and the introduction of a flying goalkeeper, India held on to secure the title.
