Arvind Kejriwal Resigns As Delhi CM, Atishi Set To Take Oath As Successor
New Delhi – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal resigned as the Chief Minister of Delhi after meeting Lt Governor VK Saxena on Tuesday.
Senior AAP leader and Kalkaji MLA, Atishi, has been chosen by party legislators to succeed Kejriwal. Her appointment was unanimously approved during a legislature party meeting, where Kejriwal proposed her name.
Atishi, who has been with AAP since its inception, will take the oath of office during a special Assembly session on September 26-27. There will be no Deputy Chief Minister.
Delhi minister Gopal Rai praised Atishi’s leadership, highlighting her dual responsibilities of serving Delhi’s two crore citizens and countering alleged political conspiracies by the BJP.
Kejriwal’s resignation, coming just days after securing bail in the liquor policy case, has sent ripples through Delhi’s political landscape.
