Aadhaar Card Free Update Available Until September 14: Step-by-Step Guide To Update Your Details
The Aadhaar card, a 12-digit unique identity number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), has become an essential document for proving identity and address in India.
With many Aadhaar cards issued over a decade ago, the Indian government is now encouraging all cardholders to update their details, particularly those whose cards were issued more than 10 years ago and haven’t been updated since.
To facilitate this, the government is offering a limited-time opportunity for Aadhaar cardholders to update their details online for free, with the deadline set for September 14.
While this deadline has been extended in the past, there is no confirmation whether UIDAI will grant another extension. Normally, updating Aadhaar details incurs a fee of Rs 50, but cardholders can currently avoid this charge by following the steps below.
How to Update Your Aadhaar Card Details for Free
- Visit the Aadhaar Portal:
- Open your browser and go to https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.
- Log In to Your Account:
- Enter your Aadhaar number and the One-Time Password (OTP) sent to your registered mobile number to log in.
- Review Your Details:
- Once logged in, review your existing identity and address details to ensure they are accurate.
- Update Necessary Information:
- If updates are required, select the appropriate documents from the drop-down menu, upload the necessary files (under 2MB in size), and submit the request.
- Track Your Update:
- After submitting, you’ll receive a Service Request Number (SRN), which can be used to track the progress of your update.
Important Points to Note
- Supported File Formats: The portal accepts files in JPEG, PNG, and PDF formats.
- Limitations: The online portal allows updates for Proof of Identity and Proof of Address only. For changes to biometrics, name, photograph, or mobile number, you must visit the nearest UIDAI-authorized center.
With the free update period ending on September 14, cardholders are urged to act quickly to ensure their Aadhaar details are current and avoid the standard update fee.
