Avani Lekhara Strikes Gold With Record-Breaking Performance At Paris Paralympics 2024
Avani Lekhara clinched gold in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 final at the Paris Paralympics 2024, setting a new Paralympic record with a score of 249.7. This victory marks her second Paralympic gold, following her historic win in Tokyo 2020.
Despite facing stiff competition from World Record holder Iryna Shchetnik and fellow Indian Mona Agarwal, Avani showcased her resilience and skill.
She surged ahead in the final rounds, overcoming a brief setback to triumph when South Korea’s Yunri Lee faltered under pressure.
Mona Agarwal finished with a bronze, adding to India’s growing medal tally. Avani’s victory not only solidifies her status as one of the world’s top para-shooters but also makes her the first Indian para-athlete to win gold at the Paris Paralympics.
India’s hopes are high with the largest contingent in their Paralympic history, as more athletes, including Preeti Pal and Manu, aim for podium finishes in upcoming events.
