Vinesh Phogat’s Emotional Return To India After Paris Olympics Heartbreak
Indian wrestling sensation Vinesh Phogat received a hero’s welcome upon her return to India following a heart-wrenching exit from the Paris Olympics.
Arriving at Delhi International Airport on August 17, Vinesh was met with loud cheers from fans, friends, and family. Overcome with emotion, the wrestler was moved to tears by the overwhelming support.
Among those present to greet her were fellow wrestlers Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, who embraced Vinesh warmly. The emotional moment saw both Vinesh and Sakshi shedding tears as they hugged outside the airport.
Vinesh’s return came days after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected her appeal for a shared silver medal at the Paris Games.
The appeal had been dismissed three times before the CAS delivered its final decision on August 14, siding with the International Olympic Committee’s ruling. Vinesh’s disqualification occurred after she missed the weight limit by just 100 grams for her gold medal match.
Despite her Paris campaign being cut short, Vinesh displayed immense grit, defeating defending champion Yui Susaki of Japan in an earlier match. Following her disqualification, she announced her retirement from wrestling, though rumors continue to swirl about a possible comeback.
