Here’s How Aman Sehrawat Lost 4.5kg In 10 Hours Ahead Of Winning Bronze Medal At Paris 2024 Olympics
Ahead of his bronze medal match, Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat faced a critical challenge following his semifinal defeat on August 8. Weighing in at 61.5kg, 4.5kg over the 57kg limit for his category, Aman had just 10 hours to shed the excess weight.
Supported by Indian coaches Jagmander Singh and Virender Dahiya, Aman undertook a rigorous and time-sensitive weight-loss regimen.
The pressure to meet weight limits has intensified since Vinesh Phogat’s recent disqualification from the women’s 50kg final for exceeding the limit by just 100 grams.
Phogat’s case now rests with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which may award her a joint-silver medal. Determined to avoid a repeat of this situation, Singh and Dahiya focused on helping Aman achieve the required weight.

After losing his semifinal bout to Japan’s Rei Higuchi around 6:30 pm, Aman and his coaches immediately began their weight-cutting efforts. The intense session included:
- Mat Session: A 1.5-hour mat session with standing wrestling under the coaches’ guidance.
- Hot-Bath Session: An hour-long hot bath to initiate sweating.
- Gym Session: At 12:30 am, Aman ran non-stop on the treadmill for an hour to promote further sweating.
- Short Break: A 30-minute rest following the treadmill session.
- Sauna Sessions: Five 5-minute sauna sessions to continue the weight loss.
- Massage and Jogging: Despite these efforts, Aman remained 900 grams over the limit, so he received a massage and engaged in light jogging.
- Running Sessions: Five 15-minute running sessions brought his weight down to 56.9kg by 4:30 am, 100 grams below the limit.
Throughout the night, Aman stayed hydrated with lukewarm water mixed with lemon and honey, and a bit of coffee, but did not sleep, choosing to stay awake and review wrestling videos instead.
Coach Dahiya noted the intense pressure of hourly weight checks and a sleepless night for the team. The relentless effort paid off, as Aman Sehrawat secured the first medal for the wrestling contingent at the Paris Olympics 2024.
