The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has extended the judicial custody of former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and BRS leader K Kavitha until August 21 in connection with the corruption case related to the excise policy “scam.”
Reason for Arrest: Manish Sisodia was initially arrested by the CBI on February 26 last year under the Prevention of Corruption Act, followed by his arrest by the ED on March 9 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. After the Delhi High Court rejected his bail application in May, Sisodia appealed to the Supreme Court.
On October 10, the top court dismissed his application but allowed him to file a new bail request if the trial was further delayed.
On June 4, a vacation bench of the Supreme Court denied Sisodia’s bail pleas, citing the government’s assurance that the chargesheet would be filed within a month. Sisodia is now seeking bail due to the ongoing delays in the trial.
