PR Sreejesh Pens Emotional Note Ahead Of Paris Olympics Bronze Medal Match
India’s esteemed goalkeeper PR Sreejesh has shared a heartfelt farewell message as he prepares for his final hockey match on August 8, Thursday.
Sreejesh will step onto the field for the last time in the bronze medal clash against Spain at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The 36-year-old had previously announced that he would retire following the event in Paris.
Throughout the tournament, Sreejesh has been a standout performer, playing a crucial role in helping India reach the semifinals with a series of remarkable saves. Despite India’s narrow semifinal loss to Germany, the team will vie for bronze for the second consecutive Olympics.
In an emotional post on social media, Sreejesh reflected on his extraordinary journey with the Indian hockey team. He expressed his gratitude for the support of fans and the unforgettable experiences of his career.
“As I stand between the posts for the final time, my heart swells with gratitude and pride. This journey, from a young boy with a dream to the man defending India’s honour, has been nothing short of extraordinary,” Sreejesh wrote.
“Today, I play my last match for India. Every save, every dive, every roar of the crowd will forever echo in my soul. Thank you, India, for believing in me, for standing by me. This is not the end, but the beginning of cherished memories. Forever a custodian of dreams. Jai Hind,” he added.
Sreejesh’s Glorious Career: PR Sreejesh began his journey with the junior team in 2004 and moved to the senior side in 2006. After initially being in and out of the team, he secured his position as the goalkeeper in 2011. Over his illustrious career, Sreejesh has competed in four Olympics and was a key player in India’s bronze medal win at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics.
