Who Are the Three Victims?
The three deceased individuals have been identified as Navin Dalwin from Kerala, Shreya Yadav from Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, and Tanya Soni.
DCP (Central) Harsh Vardhan stated that a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been lodged against the coaching centre, the management of the building, and the firm or official responsible for managing the drainage system in the area. The case is being handled at the Rajinder Nagar Police Station.
Coaching Centre Coordinator, Building Owner Detained Over Flooding Incident
Delhi Police have detained the coordinator and owner of the coaching centre involved in the tragic flooding incident that claimed the lives of three UPSC aspirants. DCP (Central) Harsh Vardhan announced that a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered against the coaching centre, its management, and the firm or officials responsible for the drainage system management in the area.
“The coaching centre owner and the coordinator have been detained so far, and those whose names crop up during the course of the investigation will accordingly face strict legal action,” Vardhan stated. The case is being handled at the Rajinder Nagar Police Station, with authorities promising thorough and stringent measures against all parties involved.

Here’s What the Delhi Police Said This Morning
Early Sunday, the Delhi Police announced that a criminal case has been registered in connection with the flooding incident.
They confirmed that the search and rescue operations, conducted by Delhi Fire Services personnel and National Disaster Response Force divers, concluded with the recovery of three bodies from the coaching centre’s basement. The operations continued late into the night to ensure the area was thoroughly searched.
Delhi Mayor Orders Citywide Crackdown on Coaching Centres: Details Inside
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has directed the MCD Commissioner to take immediate action against coaching centres across the city that operate in violation of building bye-laws.
She stated, “All coaching centres under MCD jurisdiction running commercial activities in basements that do not comply with regulations must face strict action immediately. An inquiry should be conducted to identify any MCD officers responsible for this tragedy. If any official is found guilty, the strongest possible action will be taken against them, with my office being informed accordingly.”
AAP MP Swati Maliwal faces flak
Several students are still protesting near Rau’s IAS coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar following the deaths of three aspirants in the flooding incident. AAP MP Swati Maliwal joined the protest, but students greeted her with chants of “Go back Swati,” accusing her of politicizing the tragedy and declaring, “We will not let you do politics.“
What has AAP minister Atishi said about the flooding incident?
Shortly after the incident came to light, Delhi Minister Atishi visited the coaching centre to assess the situation. She directed the Chief Secretary to conduct a magisterial enquiry, with a report expected within 24 hours.
“Strongest possible action needs to be taken against those whose negligence has caused this incident. Whoever is found guilty should not be spared and action needs to be taken against them on priority,” Atishi said on X.
Weather Update: The Met department’s PUSA weather station, nearest to Old Rajinder Nagar, recorded 31.5 mm of rain between 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm yesterday, contributing to the severe flooding.

Eyewitness Accounts: Students present at the scene described the basement as the coaching centre’s library, a popular study spot. The sudden influx of water, reportedly 10-12 feet high, left no time for escape.
Rescue Operations: Delhi Fire Services deployed five fire tenders for rescue operations around 7 pm yesterday. Divers from the National Disaster Response Force joined the efforts, recovering two bodies by 11:20 pm. The search for a third person continues.
