BCCI Secretary Jay Shah Confirms IPL 2024 Not Moving To UAE Despite Elections
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shut down rumors of the Indian Premier League (IPL) being relocated overseas. Earlier reports hinted at a possible shift to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to India’s upcoming general elections.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah definitively squashed speculation in a statement to Cricbuzz, confirming, “No, it won’t be moved overseas.”
These rumors stemmed from suggestions that some IPL teams requested a relocation due to the elections. Additionally, some reports claimed BCCI members were exploring the UAE as a potential venue for the later stages of the tournament.
However, Shah’s statement puts these concerns to rest.
The Election Commission of India has announced a seven-phase election schedule, running from April 19th to June 4th. With the confirmed polling dates, the full IPL schedule is expected soon.
Currently, only the first 21 games, played between March 22nd and April 7th, have been revealed. The season will kick off with a much-anticipated clash between the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
