Uttarakhand’s UCC To Regulate Live-in Relationships – Details Inside

  • Individuals in live-in relationships must register within a month of cohabitation. Failure to do so could result in imprisonment for up to three months, a fine of Rs 10,000, or both.
  • Individuals below 21 require parental consent for registration.
  • Registration statements, including residency status, will be filed with the Registrar and shared with local police stations for verification.
  • Providing false information or withholding details on the registration statement can lead to a three-month jail term and a fine of up to Rs 25,000.
  • Women in deserted live-in relationships can claim maintenance through the court.
  • Children born in registered live-in relationships will be considered legitimate.
  • Individuals already married or in another registered live-in relationship.
  • Minors.
  • Relationships formed through force, coercion, or deception.
  • Both partners or either one can submit a termination statement to the Registrar, with a copy provided to the other partner.

Important Note:

The bill excludes Scheduled Tribes from these provisions.
