Ashes 2023: Kumar Sangakara compares Usman Khawaja with Steve Smith, ‘impressed with his patience’

Australian opener Usman Khawaja has earned huge praise from a legend of the game after former produced a stellar show on Day 3 of first Ashes Test against England at Edgbaston.

Unlike another other Australian batter, Khawaja held his fort at Edgbaston and scored brilliant 141 to help Australia to score 386, 7 short of England’s 1st innings total.

It was a moment of redemption for Khawaja as the Australian batter was dropped from Ashes 2019. Speaking to Sky Sports, Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangarakar heaped praise on the Australian opener, comparing him with the Australian great Steve Smith.

“He was very much like Steve Smith when he got into the zone. I was impressed with his patience and how he played Moeen – taking the attack to the off-spinner,” Sangarakar said.
