2024 Lok Sabha Elections: DMK Agrees On 9 LS Seats For Congress
CHENNAI: The Congress and DMK had their first seat-sharing talks in Chennai, bringing positive news for the INDIA bloc after recent challenges with other parties.
The talks confirmed that the Congress will contest on nine seats, consistent with its 2019 performance. In the previous elections, the Congress won eight seats, missing one in Theni.
The DMK, a key ally, had a strong showing, winning all 20 seats it contested. Together, the alliance secured 38 out of 39 seats in the state.
The discussions, led by Congress leaders Mukul Wasnik, Salman Khurshid, and K S Alaigiri, involved talks with the DMK team, represented by T R Baalu.
While the Congress is aiming for nine seats, adjustments in constituencies, like Krishnagiri, Trichy, and Tiruvallur, are being considered.
The DMK is yet to discuss allocations with its other allies. In upcoming talks, the DMK might offer two seats each to the CPI and CPI(M).
The coordination and manifesto committees of the DMK have been actively collecting information from district-level functionaries for the upcoming polls.
